WISPY SLIDER: ELONGATED BY DESIGN
• A perfect balance between form and function. The Wispy has a streamlined and elongated body shape design that provides fantastic ergonomics and ensures comfort for your fingers and hand, with perfect angles for fidgeting such as pushing, turning, pulling, pivoting and much more. Its elongated body sits on a “sweet spot” in dimension, where it’s not too big or too small, it’s just right.
• Inspired by classic UQH design forms such as the Atrium, the Pavilion, the Attic and others, the Wispy has a lightweight Titanium body that was designed to be as thin as possible specially at the middle, without compromising on functionality and avoiding unnecessary extra weight and ‘bulkiness’ to it.
• Thin, simple and elegant plates that are secured with our custom made Torx screws are machined with a ‘flat bottom dimple pattern’ that helps reduce on friction and making it a true “free floater” slider design.
NO O-RINGS:
• By design, the Wispy DOES NOT uses O-rings with its magnets. We love the extra haptic feedback that the magnets provide when sliding, aka “rattling” and we consider this to be a “feature and not a bug”. On top of that, the Wispy was designed to be as thin as possible and the idea of allowing for O-rings would have changed the entire design concept by thickening it too much. So magnets will have a very small space to move (up and down) inside their housing (around 0.01mm) and you should hear the magnets ‘rattling’ a bit when sliding, which adds that extra feedback we’ve mentioned to the experience!
If you prefer a quieter sliding experience, you can always experiment with adding your own padding / cushions under your magnets, like pieces of paper, blue tac or another material of your choice. If you prefer secured magnets with O-rings and are not willing to DIY your own ‘cushions’, please do not order the Wispy as it may not be for you.
FIRST SLIDE:
• Right out of the box your Wispy slider may or may not feel a bit “dry, “rough”, or not so smooth to slide. This may happen only with the metal plates, and it’s more common with the Zirc plates. Do not panic! The metal plates MUST be broken in first in order for it to slide smoothly. Keep sliding it for some minutes, even if it feels a bit rough, maybe a couple hours. Your slider should start feeling MUCH better after some good quality sliding time.
The more you slide, the best your slider should feel as the constant friction on your metal plates should work as a sort of “polishing” for them. We also noticed that the humidity in the environment can play a role here, so you can try wiping your plates with a paper towel to remove any surface moisture and keep on sliding. If the slider feels smoother after wiping them with the paper towel, it may be related to the humidity in the air as mentioned. Try changing locations, like going outdoors with your Wispy and get some sunlight or wind while you slide, or if it feels humid outside, try going back indoors to a drier place. Just keep sliding, eventually your slider should feel amazing. :)
PLATES CARE:
• It is important to often keep your plates clean (no matter the plate material), but especially when removing screws and disassembling the slider, as tiny pieces of metal may come off the screws, screw holes or from the magnets themselves, and could magnetically stick to the plate surfaces. If this happens and you start sliding, it could cause scratches on your plates. For this reason, it is very important that the plates are cleaned with a piece of ‘drafting tape’ after you finish re-assembling your Wispy slider, once your screws are back in, and most importantly, BEFORE you start sliding again. Make sure to repeatedly use the drafting tape all over the plates by tapping them with the intent to stick any spec of debris that may be there, even if you don’t see any debris over your plates (sometimes they are almost invisible to the naked eye). After using tape on top of the plates you can then wipe the plates using a piece of paper towel, back and forth, similar to what you would do if you were “polishing” them, till everything feels clean. Only after that you should start sliding again. This should help protecting the plates from unwanted abrasion from these tiny metal debris.
